HW for March 17 - Questions for Scott Edward Anderson

 This is our guest

This is his homepage, https://www.scottedwardanderson.com/interviews-and-reviews. On Moodle, there are two poetry collections by him, including Azorean Suite, from which I have taken the assigned class reading for the day (pp. 35-77 in the anthology - it comes with the Portuguese translation). The task is to comment on interesting aspects of the work and/or formulate questions to our guest.

  1. I personally connected deeply with the text. Half my family being from Madeira, I totally understand how passionate one can feel about having an island heritage. It's so easy to fall in love with the landscapes and people and feel a connection with the place even if you weren't born there. You still feel like you belong there and long to go back.

After reading the text a few times, I really liked the text overall as it is easy to read and is full of interesting comparisons which I found quite interesting. For instance, one of this is when the author uses a pineapple to be a symbol and represent home, something that I found quite peculiar. Another aspect that I found interesting and quite liked is the abundant presence of natural elements due to it being an ecopoem. This helped me connect more with both the author and the text and gave me a better understanding overall since I can assimilate to his longing to go home.
